Boron Nitride Ceramic

Boron nitride ceramic is an advanced synthetic ceramic material available in solid and powder form. Its unique properties – from high heat capacity and outstanding thermal conductivity to easy machinability, lubricity, low dielectric constant and superior dielectric strength – make boron nitride a truly outstanding material.

In its solid form, boron nitride is often referred to as “white graphite” because it has a microstructure similar to that of graphite. However, unlike graphite, boron nitride ceramic is an excellent electrical insulator that has a higher oxidation temperature. It offers high thermal conductivity and good thermal shock resistance and can be easily machined to close tolerances in virtually any shape. After machining, it is ready for use without additional heat treating or firing operations.

Product Features:

1. mechanical strength: boron nitride has low mechanical strength, superior to graphite at room temperature, but higher brittleness than oxide ceramics.

2. lubricity: boron nitride powder is a hexagonal crystal, is a white thin sheet-like fine material, similar to graphite, commonly known as white graphite, excellent lubrication.

3. light weight: boron nitride ceramics are less weight materials in ceramic materials. Theoretical density: g/cm3.2.27

4. thermal properties: boron nitride ceramics can be used in about 1000℃ of oxidation atmosphere and nearly 3000℃ of inert atmosphere. it is a refractory with higher fire than mullite, alumina and silicon carbide. At the same time heat-resistant impact is large, in 1500℃ of repeated rapid cooling and heat, no rupture, very stable.

5. chemical stability: boron nitride ceramics and most metals such as iron solution, aluminum, copper, silicon, potassium arsenide, brass and cryolite do not work. same as slag and glass. can be used as containers for this type of material. but generally contains impurity B2O3 with hygroscopicity. If the use of rapid heating, the suction of water out, easy to produce cracks. In order to improve this shortcoming, some binders can be added.

6. electrical properties: due to the small dielectric constant and dielectric loss of boron nitride products, it can be widely used in high frequency range and low frequency range. its dielectric strength (i.e. breakdown voltage) of 950 v/cm2, i.e .4.5 times that of alumina. the dielectric constant is 4, which is half of alumina. Its electrical properties, which differ greatly from graphite, are as non-conductive as oxide ceramics at high temperatures and are electrical insulating materials that can be used in a large temperature range.

7. machinability: boron nitride ceramic morse hardness is two. can be processed on lathe, milling machine and other processing equipment. can be processed into thin slices and spirals and various shapes of complex parts. Foreign boron nitride products can be processed to a degree of accuracy of 1% mm. sheet thickness up to 0.4-0.6 mm and can be drilled.
