Cordierite ceramic rod is made of silicate ceramic cordierite (Mg2Al4Si5O18). Cordierite is a commonly used structure ceramic material which has the advantage of energy-efficiency and high-temperature resistance. Cordierite ceramic rod has very low linear expansion, low coefficient of thermal expansion and excellent resistance to thermal shock. It is used in heat shock applications that would crack and shatter most other ceramic materials. Kiln furniture is made of cordierite because it will survive thousands of heating and cooling cycles.
